Nice photos.

I've been looking at the exif data and it looks like you spot meter and then go manaul. Is this correct? Is this the best way for exposure with footie?

Well I aint the best to ask as theres many more better than me on here. I like many others setup different for different enviroments.. Night time football I know I need Manual because AV or anyhting else gets confused with bright lights or bright colours in the background.. moreso than during the day I find.. So always manual at night...I know I need ISO-1600 and I know I need f2.8 .. that only leaves the shutter speed to change in manual and the only real options there are usually (250 if real unlucky with bad light) 320 400 so there isnt much to play with to get the shot right (i find the above true at 99% of grounds I go to) The results of the above method are here and on my site. Other will ahve other answers I am sure. but this is the approach that works for me and isn't being posted as the best way :)

During the day in brighter light I tend to use AV mode most of the time as speed isn't an issue and I just cant nail that exposure in manual :( but I do use manual when shooting games just for my own website..to get the experience and hopefully get the right idea:)

BTW: night matches..I know I need iso1600 because I know I can clean them up.. some grounds you can drop the iso but as I know my pics will clean up nicely so I stick to 1600 for night matches.

Thanks KIPAX,

I use spot metering in harsh sunlight sometimes but I am not experienced to get decent exposures. I usually stick to AV as well.

On a side note, your website shows you have Football League Licence and Conference League Licence. Are these the licences granted by the nationwide once you have the required number of pictures printed in 1 year and enough Liability Insurance?

I'd really love to do some more freelance work but my football pictures are simply not as marketable as my basketball images. I usually get 2 printed per week for basketball and 1 every week for footie in my local.

Your footy pics look great to me mate.. and thats not being creepy :)

The football league licence I ahve is through the club as I am the accy stanley club photographer.. the conference licence is because i built up a good relationship with the conference last season when we where in that league and they where happy to give me an independant one this season..

I am keeping my invoices and press cuttings from the league this season just in case we arnt a league club anytime soon :( then I can go to them with proof of earnings and hopefully get an independant league licence...but only if needed. they told me 15 invoices and press cutting that match up would be required.

Thanks KIPAX :D

I was told by someone with the Nationwide Credential that it was 36 published images in 1 season along with 1 million Public Liability.

I've got copies of all of my paper cutting as well.

Well kipax if heres a deal for you!
Providing Stanley stay in the league and if Grimsby do the double over the Accies. You can buy me fish & chips next season when you come over. BUT if the Accies beat us I'll treat you to the best fish & chips in the country.

deal or no deal ? :)

for league 2 it's 15 and 2 million public indemnity (thats as of july this year when I spoke to the guy who does the licence.) I think premiership is 5 million and and not sure about championship

1 million public indemnity isn't enough for any league AFAIK.. Even the conference require 2 million (says 5 on licence but its actually 2 in line with the amount your covered if working for club)

snapzz: 100% deal :) :)
