users carry with you?

I have two 4gb cards and 2 2 gb cards.

I caught the sales today and bought 8 Ultra 2 2gb cf cards and 4 ultra2 2gb sd cards. So now I have 2 4gb cards, 4 2 gb sd cards and 10 2gb cf cards. Overkill or always better to have more than needed?

I did run out at time with my 20D with 2 4gb cards and 2 2 gb cards at soem races.

It really depends on whether you shoot RAW or JPEG and how much you like to spray, and how much you chimp away the bad shots.

For me a 2GB SD card and a 2GB CF card was more than enough. But as always individual's use dictates how much memory is needed.

Good lord. How many shots do you end up using at each race from the 12 gig with the 20D? I can't even begin to imagine post-processing that many photos from one session at this stage...

1x 2GB Sandisk Ultra II, 1 x 512MB Sandisk Ultra II - I couldnt face processing even that many shots if they were filled.

Wow what do you guys shoot? I go to a two or three day race event with racing from 8 n the morning till 6 or 7 in the evening. I have no problem filling up 2 x 2gb cards a 1x4gb cards this past race season and that was dumping off pictures a couple times in the day to my laptop. I hate going shooting even to the leaves change and have to worry in the back of my mind about space.

What ever happened to discrimination, choosing the moment and making every exposure count? It's obvious that you weren't brought up having to buy your own film...............
And before you flame away at me I would point out that I've been doing action photography for a long time and would think that if I shot that many images at a meeting I'd end up dumping 90% of them - so why take them in the first place just a waste of time in the post-processing phase.
Unless of course you use the spray and pray approach in the hopes that at 8.5fps one image out of ten is going to be in focus, in the right spot and half decently composed? Accidents are another thing entirely though!

I go to football and soccer games with a 5D/400 and a 1D/70-200 with a 4 Gb Ultra II card in each and a 1 Gb spare that I've never had to use. I shoot RAW and a few times I've swapped cards at halftime to even out their use if I find myself using the 5D/400 a lot in the first half.

I just purchased an 8 Gb Extreme IV to try out. I might get another one if I like how it performs. There's a rebate on them now so the price isn't so bad.

Well, like I said, it depends on the type of shooting, the event, duration of the event, and how much you spray. I assume you are shooting in JPEG with all that shooting, so you must be shooting quite a bit. What is your ratio of keepers? Perhaps quality over quanitity factor should be readdressed. Having said that, I've not shot motorsports, I've shot soccer, equestrian, plays, and other events though.

The OP asked "How much memory do you 1dmk2n users carry with you?" I have never used all the CF cards in one session, but they are there if needed or if any fail. Nothing worse than getting to a Rugby or Football match 200miles away and finding out that you have a faulty card. It would be as daft as taking only one battery. My 2p worth.

I tend to stick with my pair of 2Gb cards and dump to the XSDrive as necessary.

600+ shots per day is easy to hit, even with the camera on single shot mode, as it almost always is :)

i carry three 1gig cards; one in, one out, and one spare. There's always some time, stoppages etc, to do a little in situ editing. Oh, and i've only ever "sprayed" a couple of times. Still Didn't get the shot!

I can honestly say that I have seen more than one film photographer armed with an F-1 dump two or more 250 shot film backs during the course of a major race. I guess even film guys used the "spray and pray method"....or perhaps they were just trying to get a series of quality shots..sure wish I was talented enough to shoot the entire 24 hours of Le Mans with a 24 exposure roll of Kodachrome.

For some reason, I have a feeling that someone is blowing smoke about their expertise in shooting major events. Try shooting a weekend club event with 500+ cars taking to the track with a single 1gb card. I typically have 30gb of removable media available during an event weekend...does it all get used? No....generally not even close. But can I carry a pocket full of spares just in case? Of course....

For club events, they typically run half-hour timed races...with 10-12 races run during the course of a day...not to mention practice and qualifying. I often use small cards and change them out at each intermission....that way if something goes wrong...I haven't lost the whole day's shooting. Media cards are small, light and fairly inexpensive in the grand scheme of things....carrying an ample supply has no bearing at all on your photographic skills, regardless of what the expert says.
