Just a very quick (simple question)

I've only had my 1D a week or so, but I cannot see in the manual it's maximum sync speed - when using the camera on manual with studio lights.

I've read the sticky's but whilst they discuss the fact that the original 1D's sync speed was 1/500, they also say that this has been reduced, on the MkII, to 1/250.(?)

I have a shoot this afternoon - and would like to try, at some point, this camera (over my 20D)

Can someone just confirm for me the max for this camera.

Thanks all.

TJ

I've just turned the page and guess what - there it was all the time - on Page 114

It says that for "compact non-Canon flash units,. the speed is 1/250"

Yet for "large studio flash" it's 1/125!

Is that right??

Same as the 20D.
The slower speed with studio strobes is probably to account for the fact that some triggering systems have a slight delay.

Thanks Curtis. I used 1/125 tonight - and the shots seemed to be OK - although I won't be looking closely at the pics till tomorrow.

As long as the shutter speed is at (1/250 for the 1DmkIIN) or below max sync speed (or 1/125 for those large studio strobes), it really doesn't matter what shutter speed you use as far as the flash is concerned. You can even use Bulb for that matter if you wanted to (just make sure that the ambient lighting doesn't affect the picture, though). :)
