LOL ...... OK, here I go. I just placed a bid on EBAY a little while ago with pure expectations of getting outbid like I always do. Well guess what, I just bought a camera.

Now tell me about what I've got. http://cgi.ebay.com …em=190054044941&rd=1&rd=1 (external link)

I've got a little cigarette packaged size Kodak easyshare C643 digital camera that refuses to focus in a dimly lit room and the optical zoom is impossible to hold steady for a focused shot when zoomed in on something.

My main reason in wanting a better camera, I feed and have many deer come to within 30yds of my back porch and am wanting a decent camera to photograph them along with just general photography.

Is this "winning bid" going to help me out here ?

Thanks alot,

Rick

lol, you're in for a treat...hahahahha....

you have a LOT of reading to do :D

try the following 2 links for starters...
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/300d.html (external link)
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/ (external link)

I did the same thing as you about a week ago, purchased a used drebel 300D...it has yet to arrive as I am in Germany so shipping takes a bit longer but it should show up any day now....

the camera you just bought is going to open up a whole new world for you....I think you are REALLY gonna love it....

just be patient at first and learn the ropes, as it's a HUGE leap forward from what you have now :D

read the manual a few times....although canon manuals can be quite tough to follow at times....

search search search this forum for anything and everything about this camera....and start saving now for future lens purchases....as they are going to happen and when they do, they will be expensive haha

welcome aboard....it's customary to take a picture of a duck when you first get your camera for good luck. ....hope you have some around you!

:)

you made a step in the right direction. for your deer at 30 yards, you'll also need a telephoto lens. If the deer are out in the daytime, then a sigma 70-300 f4.5-5.6 is probably your best budget-priced option. If you can spend more then there are other choices. Think about a tripod or monopod to help you steady the shot.

Set the camera to Av mode, set the ISO to 800, and the aperature to f5.6 or f8, and good luck.

If the camera is in good condition, i think it is a good price. Here in Canada, a new one cost 300$ more plus tax. So your price is not bad. Have fun with your new toy. (And be sure you will want a new lens in a matter of time :D )

You might want to pick this book up.
Magic Lantern Guide (external link)
It is more in depth than the manual and is a good learning tool.

Well thanks for the replies. I hope I am going to like it. My aunt had given me her husbands camera a couple of years ago after he passed away. It was a Minolta Maxxum 7000i and had a flash and 3 lenses, 35x80, 50mm & 80-200 with it. With it being 35mm, I decided to put it on EBAY last week and it sold for $293.

So without having anything in something I did not need, I suppose you can look at it that this one only cost me $174 for a Canon digital. Guess we will see in about a week how I like it...... :p
