Hi my camera died about a two months ago and need some new DSLR. All my system is 49/52mm (from analog ages) so i guess i have to sell anyway everything therefor no reason to prefer for example Canon/Nikon/anything? and so on.

There are few options i see now:
- Nikon D80 DSLR, 10.2 MP for 844 Eur body
- EOS 350D + Sigma 18-125 mm (external link) for 865 Eur (i know i can throw away that glass)

Any other idea what is best to buy these days? I need it for me for xmass and didnt followed latest trends really.

Idea is to stick under 1000Eur without glass and i need at least 6Mpixel (to not go worse than i was until now). I would prefer to stick with Canon, but there might be better choices.

Thank You in advance.
Sandra

"49-52" sounds like filter sizes. What make camera was it? You may be able to use your existing lenses if they're Pentax, Nikon or Minolta.

I might, but i am not sure there is some good one yet with those sizes. I have it since analog camera so i am pretty sure i cannot have it on anything actual.

49mm was typically Olympus (I have an OM2N)

Sony see here (external link) and looks a good option. Personally, I think the best bang at the moment is the D80 Nikon. I don't like the cheap Canon's from a handling point of view. That is a very important aspect for me.

I assume you had a film camera. What was it. Many older lenses are excellent. I have several. There are adaptors you can use for modern DSLR's.

The 350 seems reasonable, if you like the `feel' and controls. A good bit less than a 20D or 30D.

A good bit of your stuff seems to be indoor shots, so look for a 50 1.8 or 35 f2.

Oh, and start hunting the SH places, if you had 1000EU here last week, you could have scored a 1DII.

Image quality wise I'd say the 350D would be best, as it has the lowest noise on high ISO, followed by the D80 and Sony the worst.
D80 is also a bit too pricey for what it is.

How about the lenses you have? Are they pentax/praktica? I have some and use them successfully on my EOS camera.

Don't even think about Sony; go for a 400D (Rebel XTi).

Canon 400D, (1DMkIII pre-ordered), 500mm f/4 L IS, 70-210 EF, 1.4x TC, BG-E3 grip, Manfrotto 055 + Wimberley II head, Lowepro Lenstrekker 600AW backpack, Crumpler bag.

i would not think of Sony as a Sony, but they bought Minolta so there was a chance that first Sony Minolta will be yet good. I loved in the pre-canon ice age, the A-1 though.

400D looks like a good option, but isnt it too small? Does it feel good in hands?

Praktica, but i guess i cannot use them on any canon because they are 49

i have the 400d and 30d.The 400d is great if you are going to shot all day.The 30d cab get heavy after a couple of hours around the neck.I also have the grip for both and this helps with the 70-300IS.I also use the 24-105L IS on the 30d and 17-85 IS on the 400d.

You have M42 screw mount lenses?

There was a guy here who'd just got a Praktika MTL-5. You two should get together.

Manual focus lenses aren't much use on most digitals, sadly. Having said that the Pentaxes will take M42 lenses via an inexpensive adaptor and will work with them quite well.
