Actually, EOS adapters for Pentax-Practika lenses are also out the re. Manual focus and stop-down manual or Av metering.

Sandra, I'm not sure what 1000 Euro equates to in $$$s, but I think your best bet would be to get to a shop and compare the Canon 30D with the Nikon D80 Ii'm not sure which Nikon compares with the 30D), and see which camera you like best. I bought a Canon 300D a couple of years ago and will upgrade soon, but If I knew then what i know now, I MAY have bought a Nikon instead of the Canon. The biggest draw back to the entry level Canon's is low burst (4 frames and you have to wait on the camera) and low focus points. In my opinion, its best not to comprimise on camera body at this point. Buy what you think will carry you through the next several years so that you can spend next year's money on new glass!

The kit you list has two pretty iffy lenses, plus you are paying a premium for new. Better to get a 35 f2 I think, than those crappy zooms.

i would also say that. I actually limited the decission to those two, thank to all of you:

Nikon D80 844Eur (http://www.mediaonline.de …3_331536_5000.12004.12006 (external link))
+ Sigma 24-70mm/2,8 AF EX DG Nikon 419Eur
http://www.mediaonline.de …3_121654_5000.12004.12009 (external link)
about 1263Eur

OR
Canon 400D + EF 18-55 mm 689Eur (eBay that lens)
http://www.mediaonline.de …3_350050_5000.12004.12006 (external link)
+ Canon 35mm/2,0 EF USM 255Eur
+ Canon 28-135mm/3,5-5,6 EF IS USM 419Eur
about 1313Eur

what do You all think?

Do not understand why this is so expensive though:

I'd look at a 400D over the 350D... I think the 350D is discontinued now, or will be shortly. I have a 350D myself and it is a decent camera however I find it a little uncomfortable to use with my basketballer size hands (BG-E3 battery grip helps somewhat). I believe the 400D is a similar size unfortunately. That said, it is small and light if you want a camera you can take pretty much anywhere.

Also, I use M42 lenses on my 350D to good effect. There are cheap adapters that convert the M42 mount to EOS/EF. The Takumar 50mm f1.4 has become a trusty companion to my EOS as it was to my Spotmatic back in the 80s.

I wouldn't be so quick to part with that little plastic toy... remember the 400D is a 1.6x crop, so you will be missing out on the wide end unless you replace it with something that will reach approx 18mm focal length.

EDIT: I think there are decent Tamron and Sigma zoom lenses that reach 17mm. I don't know that the EF 35mm is all that great... from what I've read.

I see, so maybe i would keep that kit lens too. Than it is 1363Eur

what should be the choice Nikon or Canon?
I have small hands so maybe the smaller size of Canon should not be big disadvantage, i had in hands 350 and it was fine.

Well, I've only really used Canon so I can't give you a practical comparison, but I chose Canon in the early 90s and I haven't regretted my decision.

better combination? It should not go over 1500 Eur with that camera and i prefer as less as possible (that i can get some filters and so on). I am limited to that shop though (credit). I am shooting mostly close range (selfshots, portraits, and so on) but want to have about 100mm tele for occassional needs

Hmmm... I assume you are in Germany then?
Not sure about pricing in Europe since I'm in Australia... how about selling the Canon 18-55 and replacing with the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5?
Then you could look at the 28-135mm IS or the 70-200 L if you had enough change. Also, another good wide - medium tele zoom is the Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5 - 4.5 (not the new version) which is discontinued, but you could pick up one second hand.

You have M42 screw mount lenses?
Manual focus lenses aren't much use on most digitals, sadly. Having said that the Pentaxes will take M42 lenses via an inexpensive adaptor and will work with them quite well.

ha. speak for yourself. my favorite lens on my 30d is my czj 80mm f/2.8.

Do you love your Praktica lenses? I do. If you don't really care for autofocus, check out the Pentax K10D. That's an awesome body for the price.

Personally I'm not keen on the mechanical linkages pentax use between lens and body. Makes for slower AF in my opinion and surely must run batteries down faster...?
