The contest is closed and the voting is open, so this is your opportunity to best for the best photo that meets the theme.

The first rule of voting. Please please please leave a comment when you vote. This contest really comes alive when people just drop in,say hi and perhaps tell us why they voted for a particular photo. It makes the contest more fun and gives really great feedback for the photographers.

Other stuff:

  • The poll will remain open for 7 days.
  • You can vote for one photo. Your vote will be public.
  • Please don't vote for your own photos or invite your friends to register and vote for you. This is considered cheating and will be taken very seriously by the moderation team. See here for more information.
  • As before there will 1st, 2nd and 3rd place positions.
  • I will be announcing the names (aliases) of the people who win.

There were several images I loved for this theme but I had to narrow it down to just one for my vote. The #9 POTN Work Station got my vote in the end. This image, for me, showed a good blending of the old and new still working together.

That's my 2 cents as a noob to the forum. I know that I have much to learn from my peers. I look forward to growing as a photographer with everyones help along the way.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

I loved the old and new hand....I loved the idea, but I just couldn't vote for it because it was terribly out of focus. I hope it just didn't have a bad upload. I voted for #9...good job....loved it!

I voted for number 4... seemed to take the theme to literal extremes. Photographically not the best but thematically a winner.

The high telephoto lens enhance the contradiction between the old (rather) and the new.
The photo is sharp and well treated

Correct me if I am wrong but I count only five submitted photos that fit the theme. Some of these look like people entered just to enter a contest.

In 14 the bridge was built in 1889 and the walking path was bulit in mid 1990's

In 15 the building was built in the early 1920's and the tracks were laid in the 1960's.

Some of them are a little more subtle than others although I agree there's probably one or two that don't really fit. That said, my view with this is always that you can vote with your feet. I don't let every photo through, but err on the side of generosity - that way you can decide for yourself when you come to vote.

Anyway, we have joint winners for this contest. In joint first place were:
#1 '2 Buildings' by Roger Cicala
#4 'hands' by DreDze

Very close behind them was
#9 'POTN work station' by kkhardwarestore

Congratulations all! I'll post the next contest shortly. Let me know if you have any particular preferences....

Thanks for going to the trouble Big B. As a relative noob, photography contests for me are not about winning and loosing, they are about learning. I find it hard to find time to experiment without motivation and a deadline.

I have collected antiques for years and easily could have pulled photos out of my archives which would have fit the theme here, that wouldn't have been any fun. I also submitted #8: Film, I took this shot 30 times. I had clearer shots, shots with more light and less, less noisy and more. I chose this one because I decided I liked the feel of it more than any of the others. This forced me to examine my preferences and better understand use of my camera. I thought this was the better of the two shots, artistically. Others obviously felt otherwise. This goes to the the whole allure of photography to me...subjectiveness. I have collected antique "real photo" postcards, and photography for a long time. It has always intrigued me, the subjective nature of value of antique photos. There are some very artistic, beautiful early photos which can be had for a few dollars. Other photos sell in the thousands. Some of my favorite early photos are not the ones I have spent the most on....subjective.

Again thanks, Tom

CC is always welcomed and appreciated

looks like i ended up casting the tying vote...if i hadn't voted could've had first all alone..haha...just wanted to thank everyone for the votes..and looking past the horrible quality of the shot...i knew it was bad going into it, but just figured i'd submit it for fun...the shot is my 1 month old nephew, and my late grandmother who was 92 1/2 at the time...was just a part of a bunch of snapshots, of their first meeting together...really wish it had come out better, but didn't think much of it at the time..oh well...thanks again everyone...looking forward to the next contest
