I am a complete newbie to cameras and I don't know what shutter speed and aperture does... Can somebody help me out and explain to me what these 2 features do?

Thank you.

This is a highly detailed tutorial & may be too complex for a complete newbie, however, it probably has all the information you'll ever need on this subject.

The quick explanation is that aperature is the size of the opening which lets light in, and shutter speed is the time that the shutter remains open, however, there is a lot more to it than this simple sentence.

Enjoy your new hobby
