I spent the weekend at my nephews soccer tourney and am disappointed with my results. They lack that pop that makes a really good photo. This was my first time shooting the sport I played all my life and I found it a much different animal than football(american style). The weather was wacky with sun then clouds then sun then clouds etc. Getting the exposure rught was a pain. Anyways, here are a few of the shots that I consider fair. Any tips or comments are welcome, as I have plenty to learn here.......Thanks. John

Pictures look good the post pross. needs work. Turn on Image Edditing and I'll mess with them a bit.

I see the difference, the sharpness helps...

Just food for thought...
I wonder if originally, a faster ISO and higher aperture settings, would have generated a deeper depth of field...and there fore more overall sharpness of each player...

John,

Have done quite a bit of soccer using the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS. I usually use ISO 400, keep the shutter speed between 1/500 and 1/1000, and try to get around f/5.6. I usually get great results on a typical MN fall day (party sunny). In bright sun, I drop to ISO 200.

The problems I always ran into at f/2.8 was depth of field with 2 players. If I was after just one player (or the goalie), 2.8 was great. But I was never satisfied with 2.8 with multiple players. 5.6 works perfect for me.
