Ashton windmill, an 18th century flour mill in Chapel Allerton is the last complete windmill in Somerset, it stands on a ridge with views of Cheddar Gorge, the Somerset Levels and Brent Knoll.

I like the view on # 3 but....don`t you think that this would be a stunning picture if it was taken at sunrise / sunset ?

It probably would be but this was the first few hours break of sun that we'd had between all the rain and wind over the last week or so :)
I do intend to try and get back to do some early/late shots sometime - I just wish it was easier to get to (about 4 miles down a very narrow, windey, muddy lane) My poor old car was filthy after this visit...lol

The sunset/sunrise shots will probably be worth waiting for, but in the meantime, these are stunning - terrific contrast between the windmill and the fabulous blue sky.

Good angle and nice and crisp #1 shot with the bold white and deep blues. The windmill is slightly overexposed though, so some of the detail is lost, although a bit of burning of midtones, and tweaking the gamma settings to e.g. 0.78 in the levels tool might help.

I like the second photo.... Sometimes you just have to get the best from the light you ALREADY have... nice work.

Thanks for all your comments :)
rudgej I had a play with the gamma in Levels and it did improve it a bit - thanks for the tip, i'm not all that proficient in PS yet so it takes me a while to get to know how to improve things :)

These have very effective perspective, creating a nice level of tension with the various competing geometric patterns. I like them.

Excellent compositions, and an interesting 'subject', there is detail lacking in the whites in the first two shots, perhaps if you could expose for the whites next time (it's easier to pull back midtones/shadow detail in PS)

Lesmac Yes it is a shame - I did try bracketing the exposure on several of these shots because of the strong lighting against the white, but unfortunately it was difficult to really assess the results on the backscreen in the sunlight, even the ones that were given 2/3 under still lost the detail in the white, i'm thinking that I should have given it more (i'll know next time) :D

Yes, I think you are correct, I often underexpose 1-2 stops from average, there is a risk that you can induce noise in the shadows by doing so, but it's worth the risk.
