Took this picture yesterday and need some C&C. I did some color adjustment to the Sky, but should the hill be lightened up some or should it be kept dark? Is there anything else to make this picture better?

Thanks for any help.

Beautiful image, I don't know why noone has commented.

About the only two things I'd like to see different are a saturation increase and a crop.

And even then, I'm not sure about the saturation, because even though your image is slightly undersaturated, it's wonderfully soft and calming.

Here's my edit - note the image is hosted on imageshack, so there's an immediate loss of quality, also with editing an already compressed jpeg

The figures are too central, therefore a crop from the right , and a touch from the bottom and it will work.

Concentrate on equipment and you'll take technically good photographs. Concentrate on seeing the light's magic colours and your images will stir the soul. - Jack Dykinga

Adam,

Thanks for the advice and edit. I actually started working on the image after I posted it and my sky colors ended up looking similar to yours. I just thought that the colors looked to un-natural and dark. But now looking at your edit, I have grown to it.

Thanks for your help.

No worries

I disagree with Les' comments re the placement of the two figures. I think that being a little far to the right would be a bit too.. cliche? Leaving them where they are gives them authority in the image, without being too central.

to each his own, butI just want to re-iterate what a great image I think it is. Nice job

P.S. a levels adjustment gives a better result than simple saturation...

I'll further the crop suggestion to trim some of the bottom, and to offset the couple. I also think that the colours of your original are more calming than the more vibrant version of Adams (and I like rich colours). In this instance though, the subtle look works better, so if you are going to increase the saturation, I would recommend doing it only very slightly.

Yeah - the more I look at both of them, the more I prefer the original.
Very calming indeed.
