i was walking along lake michigan in menominee michigan and found all this wood...i ran into another photographer and asked him if he knew what all this wood was doing here and he told me all of this is from the 1820-1850s logging industry up here...neat stuff to see it still around

That is really interesting. Its impressive how it seems to have been eroded into nice smooth shapes like rocks are. Good shot and subject.

i got out of the car with the 70-300/1.4tc to get these geese that were in the water a ways away...as soon as i saw this i went and got the 18-55...for a "cheapo" lens it does a good job i think

Very cool, black8. I like the first shot. More detail, better water, etc.

Is the wood rotten, or has it been preserved by the cool water? If its still in good shape it could be worth quite a bit. Old wood had acoustic properties highly superior to new wood, so many instrument makers seek wood from ships that sank hundreds of years ago to make their instruments sound better.

I would venture a guess that the wood there is historically protected against useage.

Reclaimed lumber is big business for sure. There is a company near here that gets logs from river bottoms that sunk while being floated down the river. Much of this is Long Leaf Southern Yellow Pine (Heart Pine) which has a beautiful grain to it and ages to an orangish red color. Really beautiful and really, really pricey!

Great shots of a really unique subject. Hopefully, they're protected. If not, I'd love to dry some out and run it through the planer. ;)

That 18-55mm lens does do a surprisingly good job doesn't it? I like your perspective, and the historical significance makes it even more interesting.
