Timing-wise you have some good images here - just try and include the ball wherever possible!!
I have to disagree with Tareq's comments about sharpness here.
I would suggest that if anything the photos feel over sharpened, the threshold and radius setting look as if they have been pushed too high on here. With a 1 series camera such as yours, on an in focus, razor sharp pic, you should fine that the optimal level of USM is 300, 0.4, 1 which is as recommended by Canon themselves. Be careful that you aren't trying to pull slightly soft pictures back into "focus" or sharpness by using USM. I always refer to a quote from the Sportsshooter website - "There is no such thing as "kinda sharp" or "pretty sharp" or "almost in focus". It's either IN or it's OUT."
This is the basis upon which I edit my photos for the paper, unless its an absolute killer photo that tells a key news story of an event.
Focus/sharpness-wise, for me the best of the bunch is the last photo - there is sufficient pop from that photo without what appears to be overuse of the USM filter.
Use Gmen's images as a very good guide as to what to aim for, but also look at Joe Toth's, Marc Atkins', Markgardener's (apologies to anyone who I have missed, but it is late!) images too. Each one of them has a different style and you can learn from each!
As for RAW, yes, there are advantages to it, however, with a 1dmk2 and its file sizes you will find that it dramatically slows down your workflow. With the camera/kit that you have you should be able to nail things pretty well in JPEG.
Phew, sorry, have gone on a bit there!!
But hope that this helps. Keep at it though, the timing is there, just work on the PP and maybe the focussing. I like the initial images, so keep the work coming!!
