I am a total newb here trying to figure this camera out and I am having an issue. If I try to take a photo in auto mode indoors using the flash every single picture is totally whited out by the flash? Is there a way to fix/adjust this? Limitation of the camera? A defect?

I called Canon support and they were of no help at all.

This a dark navy blue trashcan. This was taken in full auto. My brother can take the same photo in full auto with his Nikon and it looks perfect.....

Are you sure FEC is at 0?

You must have the FEC set to about +2 stops. Chech out flash compansation in your manual.

I dont have the option to change it in full auto. I went into Program setting and took the same picture making sure the FEC was at zero adn it was. I also adjusted the setting up and down and there was barely a change.

Just so we're clear... you're using the pop-up flash, right? Not a hotshoe one?

How far away was the trash can? The flash has a minimum range as well as a maximum one. Just a thought, or does it happen with subjects 10 ft or so away as well?

If all those pictures were taken in Auto mode, you definitely have a defective camera. Take it back and have it exchanged.
