WIA Driver HELL

I am trying to install the WIA driver for my Rebel 300D and can not get it to work at all. I have tried following the instructions on Canon's website to install and reinstall and uninstall and do it all over again and again. I can not get it to work. I keep getting the below error on the devices general tab:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. ( Code 38 )

Don't tell me to just get a card reader as I already have one. I want to use some remote access software to control the camera from my PC.

Can anyone help me fix this?

Shutdown your computer; switch on and start up again, remove previous driver.

Just in case you did not see it, hope it helps;

but it was reported problems with this WIA solved after reinstall the OS or install XP. I don´t know which OS do you have.

Found the problem and fixed it but it sucks not being able to have my scanner and camera hooked up at the same time without having to reboot to use the other. Canon should have this as a FAQ on their site.

A code 38 is a known issue with Windows XP when two USB imaging devices, such as a camera and scanner, are sharing the USBSCAN.SYS file at the

One way to resolve this is to follow the procedure below.

1. Unplug your scanner or camera.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Look down by your clock for an icon of the scanner or camera. 4. If you see an icon, right click it and choose close/exit.

This will prevent the device from accessing the usbscan.sys file and
allow you to use your EOS Digital Rebel.
