Does anyone use the wide angle with the A710IS? How's the quality? Does it block the flash?

Thanks...Dan

Wide Converter WC-DC58A

Does this converter block the Flash on the PowerShot A710IS?

Yes it blocks the flash. It will leave a big shadow on one side of the image.

If you can get a sigma 500DG super and set it up as optical slave, flip down the wide angle pannel, set the on camera flash to full manual on lowest power. this should cover the whole image. Play with the flash settings till you get proper exposure.

I have the A710IS and bought a 52mm adapter tube for it. (Instead of the 58mm one)
I'm looking for a 52mm wide angle, and Canon offers both a WC-DC52 and a WC-DC52A. I'm not very knowledgeable about these things, but both have 52mm threads. Is there any reason why I would want to use one over the other? (Other than that the DC52 is cheaper than the DC52A)
Thanks.

I'm not as worried about it blocking the flash as I am about it seeming to defeat its own purpose. I have the WC-DC58N and Canon lens adapter (LA-DC58G). Both attached images were taken at the A710 IS's widest setting. The first is without the converter, the second with it attached and the "Converter" setting set in the camera's menu. I could zoom or crop to get rid of the vignetting, but the resulting image is nearly identical to the one without the converter (I'll try to attach it to the next message).

What gives?

This image was taken with the wide angle converter, but with the built-in lens zoomed to remove the vignetting. Essentially the conversion lens + zooming puts me back where I started.

I must be missing something...
