Here are a couple more shots from the same day as the other one I posted earlier. Again, still learning!! But please give me some ideas on what I can do to improve. These are free-hand, didn't have my tri-pod in the truck....

Lens 16-35mm Settings: f/4.0 1/320 ISO 400

I like both photos, Eric. The house and bridge in the first add interest to the scenery. The mountain in the second is a strong focal point. Its impact, for me, if offset by the pretty obvious man-made excavation in the foreground. Where were these photos taken?

once again very good photos. especailly for a begginer. one point i would like to make is that usually F8-F11 are the optimal fstops for landscape, and you seem to have enough leeway in the shutter speed to use them (especially on a tripod). the composition and subjects in the first are splendid. keep it up, sure wish i took photos this nice when i started out.

Harold, these 2 shots were about 8 miles apart. Located about 90 miles south of Anchorage near Turnagain Pass. EricL

Both shots are keepers. You did a good job hand holding. Both shots seem level and no shake.

You were shooting on a clear bright day so ISO 400 is a little fast. I like shooting around ISO 100 or 200 but then for sure with a tripod.

As has been ask, where in Alaska are you?

DG

I live in Anchorage. These shots come from the Kenai Peninsula which is all the area from south of Girdwood down to Seward and over and down to Homer Alaska. EricL

Lovely Eric, and while it might be a bit cold there, the conditions have certainly given you a lovely clear air to photograph.
