I've been on a hiatus from photography for a couple of months now. I've been wanting to get the ball rolling again. I needed some inspiration, and for that I attended a photography show over the weekend. It definitely helped... last night I went out and did my first shoot that I've done in a while. As a little more incentive, I decided to look for a second body, which I just picked up tonight.

I ended up with a gently used EOS 10D. The thing came with a grip, is in nice condition, and still has over a year left on the extended warranty!! I'm still quite amateur, but I bought the body so that I would have one for both my 17-40 and 70-200 and not have to switch lenses all the time.

I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but I will try my hardest to get out and shoot soon. Wouldn't want such a nice new toy to go to waste :)

I did the very same thing! And I love my 10D. You'll find it to be a very capable backup for the 20D.

I've played with it a bit tonight, but obviously I haven't used it "in the field" yet. It seems like a very nice camera, but not quite as refined as my 20D is. I can see where they made a number of improvements, but if I am using it in a situation where it is not my primary body (easy to do as I can just put my main lens on my main body depending on the situation), I think it should be all good.

One thing I've noticed so far is that it doesn't start up as near as fast as my 20D does. I don't think this will be a big deal, but I noticed it pretty quick. I've also noticed that if I hold the shutter button while it is starting up, the camera seems to restart. I will have to test this further, but that's what it looks like so far. It also seems to write quite a bit slower than the 20D, which I hope does not become an issue.

Anyway, the true test will be when I actually take it out on a shoot, but for now it seems to be a fine piece of machinery.

I think you'll like it, once you get used to the slowness. I use it to shoot baseball, soccer, and softball, and it performs pretty well. The image quality is actually somewhat better than the 20D, IMO.

Ah the 10D. Brings back memories....
I owned the 10D for over 2 years before upgrading to a 20D. It is a tough camera which took me through three continents of traveling and shooting and worked like a champ through all of it.
Good luck shooting with it.

Yup, I have to agree with this. I still have my 10d as a backup to the MK2 and the images it puts out are superb, even if the focus is slow as molasses in January. There is just something about the images that come out of it, they don't have that "digital" look.

10D, a lovely camera, with with today's options. As long as you aren't heavy on sports or low light, it performs very well. Wish I could have kept mine.
