I am now officially a leper here I guess.

Honestly, the guy has done a lot of work in the digital camera world for some of us. Right or wrong, he has made me think in different ways than the standard follow the leader stuff. I really appreciated the way he published info on the 30D and some of his comparison tests.

I only donated $10 but felt an obligation since I have read so much of his stuff. I noticed that he is quoted often here, as a villain to the world of digital photography. Some of the stuff he has said, even to a rookie like me, seems implausible, but he still stand out there as a guy who is willing to give much of himself and I think he honestly believes what he writes.

The downside was, even for just a $10 donation, I would have thought I'd receive at least an auto-reply thank you note or something like that. Thus far, I have not heard a word, which is disappointing.

Ok, pile on me now! :)

I think most who moan do so because they think it makes them look cool. I think he makes some decent points about photography and I don't care about all the gear BS people get so excited about. He is an ass, but who here isn't?

Thanks. I think it is sometimes follow the leader type menatality, but Ken does bring a lot of this upon himself at times. I just appreciate the efforts he has made, and I have gained from his site.

I read his posts from time to time. I actually agree with many of his articles such as levels of photographers, color mangement, and why your camera doesn't matter, and such. He makes valid real world points in my view. I disagree about only needing to shoot JPEG. I also don't think he has a good eye from looking at his shots online though.

Actually it is great that people bemoan his work, right or wrong. It at least shows they are thinking about it and when they do that they always learn soemthing.

There are thousands of people who post insightful articles, opinions and reviews on various websites and forums like this one, and never ask for money.

The ones who are actually good photographers don't need to create a website as their main revenue source.

I'm clearly ignorant - who is Ken Rockwell, and could someone post a link to his site?

I like crazy people so long as they are harmless-crazy. Eccentrics are entertaining.

The other thing that gets me is that he has ads on his site yet still asks for donations.

I have been through the site and read a few of the reviews. I am a test engineer, I manager a group of test engineers. I test product every day of my life albeit, not cameras but the test methodology is the same regardless of the product. Anyway, reading through the reviews two things strike me right away. First, he breaks rule #1 of testing, impartiality. There is a bias to the reports like the recent "Do you need a $5000 camera" one. The conclusion is drawn and the tests are designed to support that conclusion. Second is consistency. I believe this goes back to #1. The conclusion is drawn and then tests are created to support that conclusion. He does not have a consistent set of tests with which to compare two different products. For real info, I’ll stick with Steve’s digicams or imaging-resource.

if Ken was here he would be on my ignore list.

Honestly I've never seen some one quoted as much for writing articles out hiss ass and calling them fact. If I never see his site again I would be more than happy.
