Question on License Plates

Does anyone know of any legalalities about posting photos with auto license plates visable? I got one today I thought was intreaging but not to sure if it's legally doable.

don't know about the legalities but IMO it would be daft to need any restrictions, after all its out there in a public place

A quick peek at the web brought nothing but I would have to imagine that it would fall under the “If it’s in public and an individual does not have a reasonable right to privacy” it’s fair game. I know that at times TV shows blur out the plates and I am sure that they have their reasons but for general pics. It’s not like the plate is a closely guarded secret or anything.

To be safe, don't do it. But it really depends on how that photo might be used.

I was just reading some of the stuff on asmp.org (specifically http://www.asmp.org …ases/AboutPrope​rtyRel.php) last night. Basically you're taking a picture of something that is very easily recognizable as belonging to a particular person. If that photo is used in a way that might show that person in a bad light, then you could get sued and lose.

Imagine you take a shot of a car and the license is visible. Then you use that photo in an article about transporting illegal drugs by car. You've just implied that the car is used for illicit behavior, and that car is easily recognizable as belonging to a particular person, thus you've implied that this person is a drug smuggler.

If you're just posting a shot of the car, pure and innocent, who says someone else can't grab the photo off the web and do what I described?

To be safe, just blur the liscense plate.

Note that I am not a lawyer...

I had taken a photo of a sports car or something I am going to blur the plate number. I call it covering my a$$
