The biggest problem with needing to measure everything myself is that I only have one camera and it is not even a current model. Without physical access to the different camera bodies and grips, it makes is pretty difficult to measure.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that sure sounds like you're saying you want a new camera body.

I'd call the Canon repair center in CA or NJ. At least there you are talking to guys with shop manuals- and maybe they can point you in the right direction. I think there is a 50/50 chance that by signing up with them you can get the external dimensions of the camera your looking for.

Well, up to now, I've been trying to concentrate more on lens than camera bodies. But now that you mention it, I'm at the point where I'd really like to upgrade the camera. I've been trying to convince my wife that with the current rebates, I really can't afford not to buy a 5D. And of course, in order to get the full $600 rebate on the 5D I'd have to buy another product on the list. With the 16-35L fitting so nicely into my current set of lens and allowing me to really take advantage of the 5D at the wide end, it would be the natural choice! I keep telling her to think of it like buying a dress and then needing a new pair of shoes and/or purse to go with it. We'll see how that all works out.

Thanks for tip Lowbyte. That is the best idea I've heard yet. I think that is where I'll start and see where that leads me.

I find it works best to use girl-logic right back at them. Rather than spending $3400, you are, in fact, saving $700!:D
