Just wondering if it would be worth buying a 2X convertor to add to my Canon 350D, 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 lens, as I'm a keen (although new) aviation photographer who can't afford a new/second hand 100-400 lens.

Scott.

Camera Gear: Canon EOS350D. 18-55mm, 70-300mm usm, Tamrac bag. 1 right hand fore finger & shaky hands.

A 2x convertor will yield two stops of light loss, giving you a 600mm f/11 lens. AF goes out the window so you will be manually focussing. Also, the IQ from adding the 2X will degrade. The amount od degredation depends on the lens. Lenses like the 300 f/2.8 don't show much loss, but your zoom would most likely suffer badly. I don't think it would be of great benefit. Save the money spent on the TC and get a longer lens later.

What Mike said, no doubt.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Is that lens even compatible with teleconverters? Never mind, I really wouldn't reccomend it anyway.

Good point - I'm pretty sure that lens wouldn't fit on a Canon 2x, but it should fit a Sigma 2x.

Thanks for the advice, I'll think I'll start saving.
