Thanks for the update and the photo. Judging by the image you've posted, getting a lens hood on and off is going to be a bit tricky. It looks like photography has presented us with yet another new challenge.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Well, Thomas, that concern places you you in the Skippy's hoodlens camp.
I am more of a filter guy miself, not that would solve the problem.

Based on those few tentative reports, it would appear that the lens is of a front focusing type. However, the focusing group is probably contained within the lens barrel for the entire length of its travel. Thus, nothing should telescope beyond the lens opening rim. It is also posible that Canon would require a protective screw-on filter be placed on the lens in order to "complete its weather seal". Naturally, the hoodlens camp is expected to accomplishing the aforesaid purpose much more effectively with the hood.

There are some over on the FM board who have received the 50L. One person posted some carefully taken sample shots with comparison to 50 f1.0. IMO, the shots look good even at f 1.2. All interested should check it out....

I pick mine up on Wednesday and I have a Christmas party to shoot on Thursday night and a Birthday party on Saturday night.
That should be a decent available light test.
