Another from the East Cataract, the Manfrotto 714 was not really up to portriat mode with a 5D, but hey, it was lighter than my usual tripod and fit in the bag :)

5D, 17-40, CPL, 2 stop Nd + 1 stop ND grad(wanted the best from the sky).

Ha! Got you at last, you appear to have ignored the rule of thirds ;)

Damn, it's still a great shot!

I tried I promise, but there was too much sky....so I compromised....hoping that the canyon would lead the eye to the main falls in the middle and no one would notice....sorry....:(

I'm pleased you have ignored my 'Rule of Turds' :) ;), another good one, although as previous, the compression is doing it no favours.

Neil, is there anyway you can post a larger version of this like you've done in the past? I'd really like to see those cliff walls up close and personal. :-D

This is breathtaking. I can't even imagine what it must have felt like to be there and feel, hear and smell it all.

Okay, I'll see what I can do and post tomorrow a larger version :)

J T - it smelt kind of damp, fresh and green, but you probably guessed that right?

Neil, the filters have given the sky a very impressive and majestic look.

Also the angle the picture was taken is superb, very good job mate.

I think the cliffs on the left and the waterfall on the right provide the rule of thirds in the vertical dimension. The horizon being in the middle doesn't bother me in this picture because the sky and the ground are very textured and complement each other beautifully. This is a wonderful picture. I need to take more exotic vacations than driving to Las Vegas, that's for sure.

By popular demand ;)

Thanks guys, like I say landscapes were not top of the agenda on this trip but someplaces demand a little time spent, once the rain stops :)

PS - if you own anything heavier than a 350D with kit lens then do not buy the Manfrotto 714 B!
