AWESOME, Neil! I didn't notice the small footbridge on the left in the smaller photo. For some reason I feel excited looking at the larger photo. I ENVY YOU for experiencing that in person. That's a place I would probably just stand and look at for hours...soaking up every little detail. I don't know about the others, but this photo of yours really moves me. From the perfectly saturated colors, to the shear cliffs, to the power of the crashing water and mist-filled canyon...everything about it. GREAT STUFF!

Well, I am happy to move people with my holiday shots. I did stand there for quite a long time, just watching the world and any landscape photographer worth his salt would die happy there.

Superb Neil, awesome capture. Colour is amazing.

The only thing I want to personally point out though, and it's totally cool if you ignore this comment because I'm nowhere near the calibre of yourself or others on the boards, is that I sometimes disagree with the way your grads are positioned. I can see their effects across places where I personally don't think you should notice where a grad has been used (like a tree where one half is bright, the other half is darker).
Obviously, this is easier said than done and I've probably exposed my total inexperience in this field, but it's just a personal niggle.

<sigh> If only ND Grads could have the opposite effect on dark branches...

I agree with this, but there are times that a compromise has to be found, certainly many people might try to bodge it in photoshop or HDR, but I firmly believe a darker tree top beats halos, blown highlights, etc. The tree was unavoidable for the angle I wanted (you are limited by the walkway on this side of the falls) so I lived with it. :)

Cheers

Very true, and I do believe you make the best of these compromises Neil.

I bet you've wished it to be different time of the day (harsh shadows in FG)...

The earlier light was best for all but the deepest areas, the day time light was way too much for shots like this as the water just blows and it is really harsh.

Sari - We did a week in SA (Kruger, Blyde River canyon), 2 night in Zambia at the falls, 2 nights in Chobe NP, 2 nights in Okavango Delta and a night in Zimbabwe at the falls. I loved Africa!!

Cheers Adam, I try :)

1st of all your a lucky bugger to have visited such a wonderful area

2nd of all your shot is very nice, the larger version shows the area up much much better giving the viewer lots to look around at.

3rd Agree about the Manfroto 714 being crap for portraits, hence the reason mine is gathering dust

 Nah, I'll leave that up to the experts. I'm quite sure there's probably a lab geek out there somewhere trying to invent a filter that ONLY filters bright whites and leaves everything else (ala tree branches in front of white clouds) looking perfectly natural.
