I am still exploring photography and I am still earning how my camera works. For this one the goal was a low f/number for a short depth of field, but now that I looked at the file info it was shot at f/5.6. Not sure if that is the lowest it would go under these conditions or not. Nevertheless, I would love some crits.

Canon Digital Rebel
ISO - 400
F/5.6
Shutter speed - 1/6th sec
Shot with cannon ef28-135mm IS on, Manual Focus

Post processing - brightness/contrast and slight color saturation (red) added.

The 28-135 is an f/3.5-5.6. Which means that if you were close to 135mm then the f-stop defaults to f/5.6. So at a close distance from your subject and max f-stop you will still have a razor sharp DOF.

WB seems off, and the bright background is distracting. The image is needle sharp (pun intended).

background is distracting

The more I look at it I really could have found a small background for this pic. Perhaps I should build a light box for experimental purposes. Hmm.. let me try something now.. I'll post a new one up soon. :)

Cool, I think a drop on the end of the needle would be a nice addition...

Here is another one I shot. Spent over 150 shots getting what I could tell was the sharpest focus on the tip end of the needle. It's difficult to tell through the viewfinder after a while of doing it. I did not use a tripod but I did prop my elbows on my knees and had an arm against my desk, the shooting surface.

As for a drop pn the end of the needle. Oh, lets try a shot for that as well.. great idea!

Be back in a bit..

Good shots, they would be good stock photos. I can see text for a health insurance add over top of them.
I recently did a set with syringes HERE
