Hi,

I was wondering whether 5d owners who own the 17-40L could help me out.
I am after photographs taken with the 17-40 on a 5d, i basically want to see what this lens can do on a FF sensor- Mk1 owners can post but i cant afford that camera- hence 5d owners :)
Anyway i have seen pictures of what the 10-22 is capable of but, i was perhaps thinking that instead of investing in an efs lens maybe that money could be put toward a 5d- i already have a 17-40L and i am curious to see how it performs in the focal range it was designed to shoot in.
Anything focal length less than 24mm would be great thanks.
:)

I up graded to a 5 D a few weeks back, (from a 10D) havent given it a really good testing yet but have taken a few shots with the 17-40 and have been very impresed nice to be able to use lenses as they have been intended again. Haven't uploaded any photos before, but will see if I can sort some out to put up if no one else does or provide links to sites sure someone will.

This is a shot I took a month ago. I cannot remember at this point the mm I shot it at.

Frankly, I am moving to the 16-35 lens so I can shoot indoors better.

Treat me like a tourist,
I have been very happy with my 17-40L on my 5D :)
I used to use it on my 10D but when I upgraded I saw (for the first time) what true Ultra Wide angle shots were :)
Here are just a some of the many shots I have gotten with my 5D and 17-40L at 17mm (no crops)

thanks John, you understood what i was getting at. Its a great lens on my 20d but it just doesnt cut it as a wide angle, i am tempted by the 10-22 but i am curious about L quality wide angle. as i already hav a wide angle lens i am wondering whether to just wait a little longer and get a FF body camera. Do you have problems with colour rendition on your photographs, that is the only bad thing that i have read about the 5d on this forum.
Many thanks, A.

Dick Banks, where did you take that picture? It's beautiful.

Beautiful picture, Dick. Thank you for getting up the nerve to post it. I own the 5D, but I don't have the wide angle lens. I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick up the 16-35 2.8 in the next few months. Having a FF and not taking advantage of the wide angle capabilities seems pointless to me! So, I better get on the ball. I see these lenses creating so many beautiful shots that I wish I had it now. Personally, I would stay away from the EF-S lenses. I have one now that I bought with my 20D over a year ago. The thing for me is that I eventually plan on getting rid of my 20 and hopefully get a 1DS...HOPEFULLY! If I can find a way to do this...late next year...all I'l have is full frame cameras. Then I'm really out of luck.

A favorite of mine:

As for 'how wide', well....

I was seated on the steps, next to the yellow line. There were at most a couple of feet separating me from the center of the yellow line.

Stick it on at tripod and it does wonderful things too:

John_B: When's the launch date for that thing?
