Just thinking, I have another eye cup in the box, should that be right?

Erm... you've got TWO? - are they different?

The contents listing on the side of the box says nothing about two eye-cups.

Congratulations on your new MK II N. I'm thinking on updating my 30D to MK II N anytime soon. These threads will speed that process up. :)

I think Jessops cocked up

I have now fitted the eye piece that was in the box and I think the one Jessops fitted must have been of a 30D as its the same as the one fitter to my 30D. So now I have the correct eyecup

The 30D cup slid off easily but the 1D will not come off now as I was going to do a proper side by side shot

What's this for?

Ahhh, the one you have on now, is the correct one (as you have discovered) - Its amazing how these things look alike from memory. Its only when you put them side-by-side you recall the difference. Haven't got a clue what that last one is - a 1972 Canon Cine Camera perhaps?

It's the bit you are supposed to slide over the firewire cable when plugging it in to the camera. Not sure why you are supposed to do that but that is what it is for.

its firewire slot plug cover thingydoda watist

open the data flap on the left side and it fits over the usb female plug to give you a better firewire connection

dam must type faster its there so you dont bend / damage the firewire connection always use it not worth the repar bill if you do bend the head

To be honest I will probable not use it as I have a card reader, unless you can think of a reason why I should

Likewise do I need to install the software that comes with the 1D? Is there anything special I should be aware of?

Making friends and not feeling quite so pushed out :)

Whats interesting is the 1D is twice the weight of the 30D. The rottary control on the back of the 30D has a much nicer action and feels more solid that the rottary control on the back of the 1D - useless info I know :)

You won't be able to set the Personal Functions or the Owner's Name without the Canon software and the FireWire connection.

What do you mean by Personal Functions?

Will this software clash with the software for the 30D?

Personal functions enable even more customization of the camera than do the Custom Functions. They'll be detailed in your (download if necessary) manual. And the software will get along fine; keep the newer version of the two (that'd be the IIn unless you've downloaded an update for the 20D); but load the driver for the IIn. The newer version of the rest of the stuff will get along fine with the older camera.
