As previously mentioned in my intro a week or so ago, I've shot Nikon for a few years now, but I'm also a major gear head. My Nikon kit is a D2XS and D2HS (Had a D200 at one time lol) and lots of top shelf Nikon glass, but I've always wanted to give the 5D a go
.
With that, I saw that Dell had these screaming deals on 5D's and jumped on one a week or so ago. Well, it arrived today
.
Spent a few moments setting some basic settings and reading the manual for about 10mins. First impressions are that this is a very simple camera to use w/o much fuss. P/u'd a 135 f2L and 85 f1.2L to put it through it's paces. The camera is well built and feels good in your hands. It will take some getting used to not having the grip and bulk of the D2XS/D2HS. I think adding the grip will solve that piece in my mind. The 85 1.2L is an absolute brick, but nicely crafted. The weight of the 135 f2 seems well balanced and I can see will be a nice combo.
I'm ready to head out this afternoon and shoot at my son's HS basketball game. I know, I know, I could've gotten a 30D for sports, but I already have high fps cameras in my Nikon gear and I really wanted to see the 5D and it's famed hi-ISO capabilities. Seen some flat out stunning hi-ISO shots from it which is what originally piqued my interest.
Got a pretty good feel where everything is at in the short 10mins and will give the manual a good going over tonight. Funny, I don't recall being this excited getting new gear. It will be fun today
