Went for a hike up the mountain

Well not much of a mountain but it's the highest one in Town.

A small portion of the trail. Or should I say a portion of the small trail.

Sandy, some people just don't care...it's one of my pet hates too including the plastic which holds four cans in place...the damage it can do to small mamals!

Anyhow, like both images but like the movement and simple lighting in the waterfall image. Good work on both.

A bit of a harsh light on the fall but still well expossed Sandy.

Its nice to be out and about in the woods isn`t it? fresh air and peace & quiet.

Thank you Dimitri. I took that shot about 10:30 in the morning and the sun was still at a very low angle, believe it or not I had my circular polarizer on and at it's darkest setting, I probably should have metered more on the water, I agree it is a tad harsh, However with me hanging on to a tree so as not to slip down the falls made for a tough shot, guess had I slipped more than the light would have been harsh.

Thank you Marie, That was probably the easest and driest part of the trail, it went up from there and across rocks like those pictured in the falls. It's beautiful and peaceful in there, I never made it to the top and there are miles of trails.

The first doesn't do much for me as it's quite busy and there's nothing that really grabs me. The waterfall is intriuging, though. I'd like to see that one done with a longer shutter speed (and obviously a ND grad to control the sky). A smooth flow of water on those rocks would look really nice.

As far as the last two, the subjects are too centered, and you don't have much foreground or background interest.

Nice waterfall shot, Sandy. I like the angle on it. It always seems a dilema to me on when to photograph waterfalls. It is nicer to hike and be out and about on a beautiful sunny day but waterfall shots seem to turn out better on really cloudy, overcast days.
We have a rapist/serial killer on the loose in this area right now so I am afraid to go anywhere by myself. There is a waterfall in a park I planned on visiting right near the place where he murdered his last victim. She was on a bike path. He is being profiled on Americas most wanted this weekend.

Nice earthy tones and shadows in the first shot Sandy. I bet the waterfalls would look great if shot in early morning or late afternoon, great shots just the same.

Thank you for your opinion JT, the first I admit is nothing special, more to just show the trail to the falls, and yes it is very busy in there, and steep. As to the falls, not being a big fan of silky looking water, although it does look nice, to me I prefer the more natural look of water flowing, also it was some of the harshest lighting I've ever dealt with in there so I doubt very much an ND filter would have done as well as a circular polariser set at it's darkest. The last 2 were not meant to even resemble a good photo but more to show what really disgusts me about people who litter like this, especially in an area that is maintained strictly by volunteers.

Thanks. I agree that alot of outdoor landscape shots especially waterfalls are better on overcast days, the lighting was tough here. Sad to here about the rapist/killer being out on the loose, and scaring people to go out and enjoy the outdoors, I hope he gets caught soon. No fear about that where I was, the trail is steep, wet, narrow and very rocky, It goes up and along a traprock ridge.
