Got off work a little early today and stopped by our local circuit city to hold a few canons. I started off wanting an xti but soon decided to go for the 30d now. I know me, and an upgrade would be in the near future, some may as well do it now. Man, it felt sweet in my hands. Snapped off some shots. I was in there for about an hour and a salesman kept coming up to me to see if he could help me. I told him he could knock off about $400.00 and I'd be happy, didn't happen. Didn't think it would. Still planning to purchase just after the holidays if I can keep my cursor away from the "add to cart" button. Looking forward to playing but it's just going to have to wait a few more weeks...............

haha, it was worth a shot trying to haggle down the price! I try to not handle stuff I can't afford right then cause I'l want to buy it. it's this reason that I haven't held a 1d mkIIn or a 70-200 f/2.8

Retail prices are just there in case someone will pay it, and most do. It's an asking price. Talk to the right person, and it'll always go lower. I went in my local circuit city as well a while back, and looked at a 430 speedlite I wanted to get. It was $350 or so. Girl comes up and says "what can I do ya for?" and instead of saying "how 'bout for free", ended up saying "well, I'm interested in this flash" and she says "okaayyy" so I told her it was over a hundred bucks higher than the "real" price of the flash. She goes and talks to her manager and comes back a few minutes with the manager and the boss says "well...we could go $300 on the flash if you buy it with a camera" and I just walked out. Smaller stores and independently owned places will usually haggle a bit.

I just clicked off 3 shots of my wife and son in about 1 second on my 30D with flash for all three shots (of course I was using my 580EX)...I'm curious how they turn out. ;)

Seriously though, I love this camera.

B&H Photo is your friend. Circuit City is good for fondling but when it comes time to pull the trigger you'd be much better off buying from B&H.

Circuit wanted 1399.00 including the 100.00 rebate. I told the sales guy what I could buy it on line for and he replies "no overhead" that's easy for them.

I buy alot at circuit city and haggle with them all the time. I knew they couldn't compete. It's B&H all the way. I have surfed prices for a few weeks now and with the help of alot of kind folks out here have been steered away from those to good to be true web sites. It's ironic to see their banners at the top of these pages, but I'm sure it helps keep this place alive. Business is business.

Yes, it's a great place to fondle. Maybe I'll go back with a cf card and really have some fun. Rip off a couple a dozen shots

Well, in all fairness, he's right...B&H has the overhead of one store and one (AFAIK) big warehouse. Circuit City has the overhead of hundreds of stores and multiple warehouses. Circuit City=Overhead.

I work at compusa. I get all of the stuff at "cost". hehehe But the problem is, compusa doesnt sell much slr items. I got my rebel xti kit for 760, my canon bag kit for 57, 2 gb extreme 3 for 87, canon 50mm f1.8 for 74 and more. I dont remember what else i got for my camera there, but yeah. Like the discount and I get it right away.

Current: Canon 40D w/BG-E2N, Canon 30D, Canon 10-22mm, Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS w/EW-83J, Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS, Canon 580EX II, Crumpler 6 Million Bag, and B+W MRC on all my glass.

I think you'll be happy when you do finally hit that 'buy' button! I've only had my 30D for 7 hours and I'm already so very glad I made the upgrade from my DRebel. It just feels so much better. One big thing I didn't expect was just how fast the mirror and shutter are on the 30D. The viewfinder blackout is noticably shorter than on my Rebel, and if I'm not crazy, the shutter lag is much shorter as well. I didn't think I had shutter lag with the Rebel, but every time I take a shot with the 30D, I am almost startled by how fast the shutter trips and the mirror returns the view to my eye. I can't even imagine what it must feel like on a 1D.

There's really not much that a sales associate (or even a store manager) at a large retail chain can do for you in terms of pricing. The corporate office sets the price, and associates aren't allowed to give discounts at will.

Not true. Just saying, I work at a "Big box" retailer and when customers ask for a better price, if we can make profit and give the customer what they want, then we will do it.
