I like it. Foreground slightly dark for me but otherwise the sky is awesome. Perhaps a GND filter positioned down to the top of the hill would have allowed and extra stop of brightness in the foreground? (but the compromise woulde the brightness between hill and horizon... :| and the lighthouse may not have glowed so much.)

Hmm,i agree with Neil here Frank, however,as far as i can see,the place seems impossible to get a good framing for it.
From your framing , the angle you are standing and the FL , personally i wouldn`t even try it , you are a brave man,,well done on your courage.

Way to go, Frank. We tried to get to that lighthouse, but weren't allowed all the way. You seem to have gotten quite low, a perspective we never saw. Also, you managed to get there with a very dramatic sky. good work all around.

Thanks Neil and Dimitri for both your C&C.

The sun was to the right, behind the hill and just about at the horizon, so it was a struggle against time. The FG wasn't getting any lighter so to keep it as natural as posssible it had to stay a tad bit dark-not much PP there. So I figured I expose for the sky and lighthouse

It's very ironic, how both of you guys knew the difficult time I had with this shot. How was this possible? After changing lenses, filters, trying to get the right exposure, and many shots later this is the best of the bunch, but alot learned;):D

Thanks Stan for your kind comments.

I took the shot at the off season, a couple of weeks ago in the late eventing so there wasn't anybody around. I got about half way to the light when I decided to jump off the beaten track-as usual.

Stuck out so far in the Atlantic and the combination of the warm and cold currents, we get a varity of cloud formations so it's nice to take advantage of it sometimes.

I like the shot Frank, and have you considered cropping about halfof the foreground to give a panoramic crop. I tried it by covering that area onscreen and felt that it then gave a nice boost to the impact of the lighthouse.

Thanks John for the tip, I'll have to try the crop tomorrow, a little late for that now.

Awesome sky Frank, interesting clouds and cool cast. The lighthouse does seem to almost glow. The foreground is too dark on my monitor to see alot of detail, I think I'd rather see this shot with a narrow pano crop, just a bit of ground and sky. I think you did well considering the difficult shooting conditions and vantage point.

Another lovely looking area you've found there Frank

I agree with John in the cropping suggestion, the dark foreground could be reduced to make it less overwhelming.

Dark FG or not, it's a beautiful shot Frank. The sky is really what makes this shot in my opinion. Good job!

Yes John, the crop is much better. The reason I kept so much of the FG is that my monitor shows alot of the detail which keeps the eye smoewhat busy.

That looks good Frank. The foreground is subdued, and the silhouette of it nicely leads to the lighthouse that is glowing against the beautiful sky.

Now you have it Frank. I didn't like the first shot but this crop is just what the doctor ordered. Good work.

I like the original image, Frank. To me, the tree sticking up in the crop just seems a little out of place. I can see what you appreciate with the original foreground with how the trees are slightly illuminated. They are visible enough, but subdued enough not to distract the eyes from the subject. The mix of dark greens and grays up to the blue water (WOW!) and sky contrast nicely with the glowing lighthouse.

Did the water really look that blue and the sky that dramatic, or did you do some tweaking to get those colors? Either way, natural or processed, it looks great.
