Shooting RAW and converting!

ok, my question is, after shooting RAW then putting them on my computer i go to convert and save and save as a 16bit tiff. when i go into photoshop i cant do anything. Am i not doing the right thing?? please tell me the right way to do this. thank you.

some options are not available in 16 bit mode

try importing and editing in Lightroom/Bridge first, then do final touches in photoshop

so the only way to have all the options are to convert it to Jpeg?? also when i changed it over to 16 bit, the thumbnail looked blury. compaired to the Raw. Im very new to all this so excuse some of my questions. Is this because im using photoshop 7??

Blimey, that's two people in one week :)

As I'm sure you have found out for yourself, all you have to do is to convert the 16bit TIF's to 8 bit within Photoshop (Image, Mode, 8bits/Channel) and all the options will be available to you. Don't convert from RAW to jpeg just for this.
Also try and do the 8bit work at the later stages, do as much at 16bit as you can.

Look at it this way, When you're converting from RAW, I think of it as working in 16bit, & usually only crop & sharpen in PS. This works for prints 18" wide (maybe bigger), so if you aren't doing large stuff, I don't see a need to use 16bit in PS?
