What happened to my 350D?

Hi!

I was shooting some studio flash pics for fun, while suddenly the flash didn't fire. Hmm, that's odd I thought and tried to take another picture. But then I noticed my 350D was unresponsive - well, the LCD worked fine and it showed the adjustments I made just fine, and also the menu worked. But the viewfinder didn't show any information at all (all black) and the camera didn't hunt for focus, nor did it shoot. I just tried taking out the battery, waiting a bit, and inserting it again, and now it seems to work.

So my question is - what happened, and how do I prevent it from happening again?

PS. The flash was connected to a Kaiser hotshoe sync adapter if that helps.

mine did that the other night, not using the flash though... just refused to shoot. it did it twice - once where the wheel didnt do anything and once where it wouldnt shoot. Hasn't done it since though so I'm none too worried. Are you using the grip?

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a mirror lockup problem.

Jiggling_john: I'm not using the grip. :)

Anyway, thanks for replying. I'm not too worried about it (now) unless it happens again.

I wouldn't worry about too much if it was a one time incident. Mine has done it to me before. Sometimes these cameras are known to lock up and removing the battery and re-inserting it seems to be the trick needed to get them going again.

Are you still under warranty? If your warranty is getting towards the end you might want to get it checked over before it expires. Murphy's Law has a codicil about warranties, nothing breaks till the warranty is finished!

sounds like it crashed and got fixed by turning it off and then back on.

It's only two months old, so I hope it was just a glitch.

Anyway, seems like I'm not the only one who has experienced such a thing. So I'm not too worried about it now. :)
