If I was buying new, I'd got for a 30D because it has some improved features over the 20D
But if I was looking for used, the 20D would give better value. Loads of people keeping up with the Jones' have flooded the marker for used 20Ds so you get a better deal.
The main advantage of buying used is that someone else has taken the depreciation hit. the disadvantage is that there is no warranty and you might be unlucky and pick up a lemon.

It is an update version of the 30D. If I was you and had the money I would get a 1dsmk2 and grow into it.
