are you a pro? because I can understand having two cameras (which I plan on doing myself soon), but 5 cameras is a little overkill......

here are many people asking me how to clean the camera and what is the lens which give you focal length from 10-400 and so, all that just not to change lenses.
and each camera has something not on another one, and i am an addiction to electronics and i try to buy the best product as i want to use its maximum limits, so if i have computer with 500 GB harddisk and 2GB ram so why i can't use cameras with 12-20 MP, and for sports there is one or 2 cameras. and my old cameras are now for my children and friends, so it is like i use only 3.
and it is great to have each camera with different lens, no need to change lenses if i want to photograph macro and wide angle landscape and some birds all at one day same time;)
don't worry, i am not pro, but ask others who i think they are not pro or even pro but use more than 3 cameras here, you know what i mean.;)

LOL Thanks for the advice Dante King.

Now what lenses to choose.

120-300 2.8 Sigma DG

Plus 2 more lenses UWA if possible and a standard Zoom, what should i get?

This is my current list.
1D MKIIn
10-22 (30D) or 17-40L
24-105L
120-300 2.8 Sigma DG

Will the 17-40L be wide enough?

I'll have to order soon so i get it before Christmas. I'll do it next week:)

17 is fairly wide on 1.3 crop(1D series). I have the 16-35, and it gives me an FOV of about 20-21mm. For most purposes, its wide.

120-300. Great lens. It's just not one for handholding for long periods. That's where the 70-200 IS is useful. And it makes a wonderful portrait lens on any crop. The traditional range is from 85mm to 135mm. It fits in there in all the cropped cameras.

for what pupose?
70-200 will be the best zoom ever from canon.
100-400 is more than enough to me.
just because that range and f2.8 i don't think it will be my most used lens, don't forget that 70-200 of sigma is great too but still canon one is the best.
you have to buy what you like and feel ok with.
Just now i am waiting a brown truck to come to my house with new present ordered

Depends, The 120-300 is defintely better from 201-300mm. If we are talking about non-handholding applications. It has its advantages over both the 70-200 and 100-400. Canon has nothing that can top the 120-300 in the 201-300mm range.

Tareq you should get the sigma 120-300 2.8 The photos i have seen are just amazing and it's stats are better than the 70-200 2.8L IS. And it's BLACK

Both are good. Neither is really better overall. They carry different applications, if you break it down. That's why I have both, because they really don't conflict in anything even though they share the 120-200mm range.

so is that focal length so important so then i have to buy 120-300?
just i was thinking for most birds shots 100-400 is enough or i should get one prime for sharper or faster sometimes.
and for sports, i think many use 300 or 400 primes, so i don't know if that siggy 120-300 is more used than 70-200 or 100-400, and yes, i use lenses mostly handholding rather than tripods or monopod unless if i buy very heavy lens like 400 or 600, so what do yoy think?

It's all relative to the user and of course the money factor, most of all.

Outside of that, it depends. If you carry 2 bodies(like you do, probably), then a prime is easier to work with because you have an alternative lens on the other body.

It's really up to how you like to shoot and how much weight you like to carry. A monopod will generally help you be more accurate and still give versatility in quickly settling than handholding, over a long period of time.

But with birding, longer, usually is better. Your 100-400 would be useful in that case, especially as a light carry and a one lens + one body solution.

I should have made it more clear. Lens usefulness can vary. Heck, i probably should have had a 400 for the UCLA-USC football game i just photographed, but i did save 100 dollars, so Im happy.

I can understand where your argument is coming from, but I personally don't believe that I would ever carry three cameras around just to avoid having to switch lenses - two would be more than enough. But, to each his own - if you are able to afford it I suppose there is nothing wrong with supporting Canon...

Daniel - I have the 120-300 DG with 1.4x DG teleconverter lens mated to a 30D - it's a ripper combo.

In actual fact (when shooting high action sports such as surfing and baseball) the lens is let down by the 30D. The 120-300 lens is very quick to lock-on to it's subject but the 30D could do with a few more AF points.

Also, the AF system on the 30D can at times produce inconsistant results. Hence my reason to look for a 1DMkII. Now that should turn a ripper combo into a sensational combo. I'm looking very much forward to using the 1DMkII and the Sigma 120-300mm DG lens.

Hope this helps in your decision...

FREDO

You'll enjoy the 1DMKII on any good lens. And 120-300 is one of those. The only sad thing is losing some of that extra field of view. About 100mm of it.

I can carry 2 cameras and in Europe i was carrying 2 cameras and yet i was changing too.
So, i like when i carry more than oen camera as i feel it is faster to snap shots with different focal lengths than waiting to change between lenses and then get more change for dust.
but anyway, it is depends on user as grego said, i found some here considering 100-400L or 70-200L or 1Dmk2 so heavy and they replace it.
I like those gears and i paid for them to use, so i am not complaining at all.

Now i have some prime lenses as high priority, i will not think of zooms now, but when i will finish my lenses list then i can think of some additional lenses such as 120-300.

Tareq: The reason i said you should get it is because canon simply doesn't have a 300 2.8 zoom lens. This lens is great for sports and wildlife. Think about it with a 2X converter you have 600mm. This is at 600mm and it's very sharp!!

That's 960mm on a 30D + 2xTC

780mm on a 1D MKIIn + 2xTC

My saving money for next gears will be only for Canon 300 f2.8, or 400 f2.8, 500 is there too, between 85L and 50L, so this lens is in the bottom of my coming gears list.
