Crikey Tareq, just checked your gear list..... thats not a gear list, it's B&H's store inventory!

How about a photo of it all? (well all except the extra wide angle lens you'd need to use to get it all in the shot! ;-)a)

Daniel,

I really hate to spoil the fun for you, but is it really a smart decision to get all the goodies at once?

No offence intended, but going from your current gear (18-55+70-300) to what you have been asking about will most likely take some getting used to.

My suggestion would be to
- get one or two good lenses first (suggestion: 70-200/2.8 IS if you still want to get it and 10-22 if you are not getting a 1.3x or 1.0x crop body anytime soon). Especially the 70-200/2.8 IS will most likely give you dramatically different results than your current gear.
- try out the new gear, learn it, get used to it.
- Once you have mastered it, go on with building up your gear

OK, I agree that there might be compelling reasons for getting everything at once (e.g. your wife will never allow you to buy more gear, so oyu have to get all at once now  ).

However, for me personally, getting all I have been dreaming about in one big step would most likely spoil it. I wouldn't know which of those great lenses to use first etc. Plus, don't rush it. Once you've tried out how you get along with some of your new gear, you might re-assess what you want to get next.

Also, re the 120-300 ... while I agree that it certainly is a great lens from most of the images I have seen, it is quite a monster to hand-hold. Plus, I've seen the one or other thread with images from copies that were less than sharp wide open. For me, that would suck a lot in a lens with such a price tag. Be sure you buy from a reputable source.

And finally ... what I am missing in your wish list, is one or more good fast primes.
OK, maybe you are not a prime fan, but maybe you just have not tried a good one yet. Ever thought about it?
Suggestions here would be the 50/1.8 (bargain), 50/1.4 (great lens, especially for portraits) or Sigma 30/1.4 (only if you decide to stay with 1.6x crop), otherwise Canon 28/1.8. But be aware, it might be addictive. The innocent 50/1.8 definitely was addictive for me.

Just some thoughts.

Best regards,
Andy

Actually, my wife would lough out loudly if I told her that I am acting as 'voice of reason' here on the forum

some cameras, some lenses,
and still a lot of things to learn...
(so post processing examples on my images are welcome :D)

Love mine, Actually its a bargin relatively speaking. It's one of the most affordable 300 2.8's out there. That's what you really buy it for. The 201-300mm with a max aperture of 2.8.

Daniel,
I And finally ... what I am missing in your wish list, is one or more good fast primes.

What a good point Andy... It's funny how the prime lenses get missed out, something i've discovered after borrowing a mate's f1.8 for a weekend simply because he was raving about how good it was and told me to give it a go.

I was disappointed with the construction and bolting such an item on a fine camera like a 1D seems a little odd until you start playing with the sudden control you get over depth of field and surprisingly great quality.

In the end I went for the 50mm f1.4 which is considerably better construction and slightly better low light performance. It's kind of my toy lens and one of my favourite ones to play around with. I've done some great portraits with it and am loving the control you get with the depth of field.

Being small and light relative to some of the larger IS and L lenses I've been using it's a welcome relief. I wouldn't go anywhere without it now so yeah, stick one in the bag and enjoy.

Thanks for your good advice. I would of got the 50 1.4 if a could but that will be my next lens to fill the gap.

My old lenses i will sell immediately. I am not getting the sigma any more. I'll let you guys know when i get them since i have mentioned so many lenses and camera's. LOL

I am going to make the purchase in a few days and of course i am buying from a very reputable source who i have purchased a small item, the Copper Hill cleaning kit.

I am buying from this company and it's great dealing with the owner directly.
Do check out his site as he himself is a Canon photographer.

Slightly OT, but I've managed to get by on one camera body for the most part. It's a pain in the ass when you're shooting an event and keep needing to switch lenses to get the shot you want, but you can do it. With that said, I'm now 100% committed to owning two or more bodies.

BTT, with the 70-200L IS, I always use the tripod ring. Common sense.

Now you know how i felt for a long long time. That's where the 120-300 was good when i had one body and did sports. :)

But nice to have 2.
