looking at circular polarizers at B&H...."general brand" is about $20....hoya and other name brands are $32 and up...

i know with lenses you get what you pay for...

what about filters, is there a noticable difference? i know it's barely over a $12 difference, but i'm on a tight budget....$12 is enough gas for my car for about a week lol

anyway, should i avoid the general brand? thanks :)

I know this doesn't help your question, but I wonder if any place has tested high end and low end filters side by side in the same manner they test cameras? If anyone had a link that would be interesting imo

I had a cheapo S&W polarizer from eBay and the colors seemed a bit off, so I got a mid level Hoya filter and could see that the colors looked more natural with the Hoya.

a side by side comparison would be pretty helpful.... :)

thanks for sharing your experience....

after googling my question and doing a bit of searching...seems some say no difference, others say hoya and other named brands are better for several reasons.

i'm just gonna go to the local store here that sells them with my camera and see if i can try both. they should be able to work with me :)

i'll try to take shots with both and do a comparison deal...might take a few days. any other thoughts welcome!

:)

I know your on a tight budget but considering a Polarizer will definitely make a difference in your pictures. You will get better saturation of colors and will also reduce reflections in water, leaves, etc. If and when your wallet expands to purchase one again, get a polarizer with multi-coating as it is the same coating as in your lenses. :)
