My 30D named files IMG_0004 i have just read that 1D's MKII have a random code that can't be changed. Out of curiosity what file names do you guys end up with?

Mine are OO2Yxxxx. I believe it can be changed on the 1D MKII N, but I haven't tried that.

Have Fun,

They can be changed. It also depends on your color space (sRGB/AdobeRGB).

O47UXXXX....They can be changed on the 1DmkIIn, but they can not be changed on the 1Ds series cameras. Color space effects some cameras by adding a leading _.

09DJxxxx on my 1Ds Mark II. And I think Woolburr is correct about not being able to change them. My guess is you will be able to on the Mark III.

I dont know what mine are because I change them to my normal naming scheme immediately upon ingesting to the computer. I also havent changed them to anything special on my N for the same reason.

You can use that method with all cameras and dont need them to be able to create unique names. Its a smart way to go if your cameras dont create unique names so you dont get into having multiple file names that are the same.

Ahh, right - one of the features of the "N" revision... 1Ds will have to wait for an "N" or Mark III revision I guess.

From experience how much do you guys think the 1D's MKIII will cost on release?

What will this do to the price of the 1D's MKII?

My 1DsMkII's code is VI0S#### or in Adobe RGB _I0S####. (as in Victor India zero Sierra)
It took me awhile to figure out it was a zero instead of an 'O' but I finally figured it out.

I like the fact it can't be changed until it leaves the camera.

Kind of better then a serial number thing. If the camera gets stolen and the recipient is stupid or doesn't know, there is a small chance I might be able to back trace and get my camera back. Not likely I know, but if it unique to each camera then I like not being able to change the first 4 characters of the file name in the camera. Since I can change the file name after it hits the computer this works great for me.

If nothing else it is way better then just "IMG" which is boring.

What I am curious about is if there was a sequence to the cameras, I got mine in Nov 2004 so it should have been part of the first batch that came out. But the code starts with a 'V' so makes me wonder how they determine the code.

And just to satisfy curiosity (in case a better answer doesn't come out)

Could everyone list the number (all 4 digits (as in sRGB mode image)),
When they (or whoever) bought it new,
And what country (or Canon region) it was originally purchased in.

If I get enough answers ( I would guess I need at least 10 data points to form a good hypothesis 20-30 to maybe find the answer with some level of confidence) I may be able to figure it out (if it is not just random).

And 1DsMkII only please (as 1DM2N can be changed)

no way of knowing, but probably 8k+. theres no info period on deatures or price. there may be a 1d/1ds merger as they've already annouced the end of the 1.3x sensor.
