I was thinking that this would be a good idea to set-up the centre point selection using
C.Fn-18-1/2 and C.Fn-04-1/3.

So the first button next to the star will select and focus as long as you hold it down.

Do many of you guys use this it seems like it should be the first Custom Functions that i set up when i get my 1D true.

I plan to start using it and not having to read the manual first:D

Thanks

i use it all the time for my center focus point. that way, i can select any point and when i am done shooting that subject or something comes along the way, i can just press that button and bring it back to center point.

no problem. i think that the key to the 1 series body is customization to be honest. the camera is so freaking complicated with so many options but once you get the hang of it and customize it the way you like it, it is truly a great tool. i read the manual about 5 times now and you know what, until you go out and actually shoot it, you won't be able to appreciate it.

CFR 04-1 and 18 -1 and is what Chuck Westfall of Canon suggests in this:

pages 11-22
Its what I use and am happy with.

I have mine set to C.Fn-18 = 2 and C.Fn-04 = 3 with "X" set to AFPS and "*" set to center AF point. Works like a charm when used in AIServo mode.

I am now thinking what if i make the order then in a months time the MKIII comes out!!!

I think I should wait till the end of February what do you guys think? I have a feeling it might be soon and they might be just a bit behind on their 2 year release cycle.

How much would the 1Ds MKIII cost when released anyone have a good idea from past experiences?

Do you need to upgrade now? If you don't mind waiting, then don't worry. Even if the 1Ds III comes out too rich for your blood, prices on the 1Ds II should come down at that time.

This always happens with technology. What if yourself to death. what if yo step off the curb and get creamed by a bus? Cant live like that.

like Dante said, living your life in the "what if?" mentality is a sure way of make sure that you don't live your life at all. the 1DsmkII is a kick arse camera and even if they do come out with a new one:

1) the mkII is still kick arse
2) the mkIII will cost around what the mkII cost when it first came out which is in the 8k area
3) can you think of anything that the mkII can't do for you?

Well yes:

make my wife shut up
put the kids to bed
bring me a beer
call into work and tell the staff I am sick
change the oil and rotate tires on my car
wrap my christmas gifts

So, the mk3 better do that.
