Do you have the option to record different formats to different memory cards (RAW-CF) (JPEG-SD)?

Not at the same time, you can only use one card at a time... even telling the camera what card you want to use is a bit of a hassle.

They added this to the 1D IIn in response to demand, but earlier models can't.

Sorry for this OT question but I have to ask, why do you refer to the camera as 1D's MK II (with the apostrophy)? Are you referring to the 1Ds MK II or some plural form of the 1D MK II? Just curious. :)

Not true, you CAN record different formats to different cards at the same time. You can record raw to CF and jpeg to SD or vice versa. You can also write the same file to type to both cards at once.

As I said above, that was added to the 1D IIn. Other 1D family cameras either mirror to both or write to the selected card.

The 1Ds Mark II and 1D Mark II can't do this. The 1D Mark IIN can.

You keep asking about 1D's MKII....it is very confusing as to what camera you are talking about....as there is no such thing as a 1D's MKII.

Canon makes a series of cameras known as the 1D's but no individual camera called a 1D's (one D apostrophe s).

Canon does make:
1D - Uses only CF cards. Can save jpeg and raw to same card.
1DMKII - Uses CF and SD cards - Can save jpeg and raw to same card.
1DMKIIn - Uses CF and SD cards - can write different formats to each
1Ds - Uses only CF cards. Can save jpeg and raw to same card.
1DsMKII - Uses CF and SD cards - Can save jpeg and raw to same card.

Again, he is refering to 1Ds MKII, just because he is thinking about it he write it with ' symbol.
so, Woolburr, from your reply i can understand that also 1Ds MKII can write different formats to each card as 1D MKIIN?

You don't already have SD cards for your 1DmkIIn?

Yes it can...has an identical set-up to the 1DmkIIn.

That's funny. The 1DsMKII manual doesn't mention anything about that.

not yet, hehe
I shoot always with RAW and i have enough with my 2x 2GB amnd 2x 1GB CF cards.
but when i will get 1Ds mkII soon then i think i need more cards and i will try to use JPEG with that as it is nice on FF cameras as i heard.

I stand corrected...just found the manual online. It would appear that I didn't have it set like I thought.
