Back on Track!!

Hey, I know I live in a glass house so please not stone throwing.

First, I have let go my 5D. Yep. Now before you start, It is a great camera. Great IQ. BUT, I had some real issues with it. Personal issues. First was with my 1dmk2N, I had to carry two different batteries. Second was the interface. Nice, but I did not like how settings could be inadvertently changed. I also did not like having an non integrated grip. After having 45 AFP going to the 5D was a bit hard. Lastly, I loved the 16.7 Mp and the given ability to crop the hell out of shots and still have huge printable files. SO..... I traded my 5D for 1Dsmk2. Now with the N I am covered for a long time to come. I dont know. There is something magical with the 1dsmk2 in the studio.

Second, I have sold off my 70-200 f/4 IS. I felt so DIRTY lugging around a slow lens with a f/4 aperture. I still have it sitting on my desk to ship out tomorrow, so I am still not clean, but I know my backsliding days are over.

Just had to share.

It isn't hard to understand the need to get away from the 5D...it is a nice camera, but it isn't a 1...I never thought Malone was crazy when he said he couldn't go back...it isn't snobbery at all...people that use a 1 understand all too well. The lens is a different beast...f/4 has a place some times. The whole weight thing...

Dante, so does this mean, you'll be moving to the 70-200mm f/2.8?

No rock throwing here. Whether it be cameras, cars, stereos, whatever, once you've tasted the best it's hard to settle for anything less. And if the 70-200 is going where I think it's going, we will get to enjoy all the eye candy photos it's sure to produce.

I wasn't the least bit surprised. After explaining to me how great the 5D really is FF, I knew it was a matter of time before I'd get it, Dante. I'm just starting to get serious. You have used the flagship set ups so it's not hard to see this coming. If the 1DsMkII wasn't so big and heavy and expensive, we'd all have one.

Well, this probably is the best combo for you anyway...and a pretty good "trade" (if it was straight across) Nice to know that all is well and balanced in the universe again!

yeah, that's pretty much my answer for everything these days...

Seeing that I think you have owned nearly every piece of expensive Canon gear you should post some write-ups for the forum with pros and cons from your point of view at some point.

I really wish Canon would build a 1D, but the 5D size with a BP-511 so the shape would be like the Eos-1v. And then allow the grip to attach the same if needed.

I'm not thrilled with the Ni-MH of the 1D, I wish Canon would go Li-Ion across the board like Nikon.

Well Dante this comes as no surprise and I can't fault you at all for the body change. I've been itching for a body upgrade for some time now and the 5D will probably be where I end up, it'd be great for the uses I do. It is true, once you've used the best it's hard to go back (unless you're Ronald, then you go back and fourth ).

I do think you're a bit harsh on the F/4 zooms, they have their place even in your kingdomly stable of speedy glass. Enjoy buddy.

No joke. These guys are serious collectors. I couldn't imagine owning the number of primes Dante has. Maybe when I hit the lottery.

Not a bad idea, but surely there is some one better than I for this task.

Well, this is my second 5D and second 1dsmk2, but I am NOWHERE near the "Ronald Frequency". RE glass, I was really tongue in cheek about the slower than 2.8 stuff, thing is I am mostly prime guy, and DOF whore.
