I was only comparing them wide open as "tribalstu" wanted to shoot wide open and gain the extra stop advantage when shooting at nightclubs.

Using the TDP comparison chart, it looks like the the 24mmm at 2.8 is not as sharp in the center as the 17-40mm at 4.0 in the center. I didn't compare the corners. In my opinion the corners are not as important when shooting wide open because the depth of field is shallower and the corners are likely to be out of focus anyway.

Thanks a lot, Booju. I think there are a lot of better photographers out there than I am. I am kind of lonely here in this thread, so I wouldn't mind someone else using the lens. It's a decent lens, but I'd look at the 24mm f/2.8 IS too, if I'm honest. It's apparently a little better and it has IS too.

Here's an old shot for the purposes of keeping this thread going. I like the photo too. This is the road to the Columbia Glacier in Jasper National Park, Canada:

I regret trading this lens. I had the FL covered with my 17-50 2.8 but the 24/2.8 was always just sharper enough to make a difference.

Peeeaanuut you didn't have it very long. You should have hung onto it for a while long. I was hoping to see more from you.

Just picked up a second hand one for my 6D. Love it :) It (the 6D) is now officially my point & shoot camera. I now have the 24 f/2.8, 28 f/2.8 IS & 40 mm pancake. Exceptional bang for buck, size & weight. In my book :)

I just bought this lens on eBay, so I'm totally going to bump this thread with a photo of Gerald.

Really liking it on my 6D. I've said it before, but with the 24 & 40 mm pancake, it's now my point & shoot. Oh, and I added or left in some vignetting on the first shot.
