The temperature was zero degree when I took these photos. It's hard to tell, but there is a river under that ice, and as you can see the trees are covered with it too. It was cloudy, but such color clouds are very common during the winter. Sometimes the colors include light pinks and blues, but not today. I took one photo, turned around, and then took the second one, with the camera set to P mode I believe, ISO at 100. Used my Rebel XT and the kit lens.

Nice shots. I like the second one. I hope we get snow over this year, so I could take my first snow pics.

We don't have too much snow on the ground, maybe 8" or so. But every now and then it snows just a little to keep it at that level. Since it's cold and dry, some of the snow disappears. But the ice on lakes and rivers can get quite thick.

Very nice. I'm liking #1 the best. I like the composition plus the added amount of blue sky adds depth and color.

Number 2 is nice, but you've got a halo around the trees in the background...

P.S. turn the camera off P and put it into M!

Very subtle colours, I like number two...not sure if those are haloes arouond the trees or just a bright spotwhere the clouds area broken?

I also like #2, but the halos around the trees in the back are a bit distracting (it almost looks like the halos from HDR images). Very nice though.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

I believe that what seems to be a halo is just the lighter clouds in the background (sort of what you can see behind the spruce tree on number one). I agree with you that It's a little distracting.
