I've already decided that I'll be getting a 30d just after the holidays. I'm funding it with my ebay biz profits and it's a done deal. Just want to get through the holiday rush. I want to get just the body but am having one hell of a time trying to decide what lense to start out with.

At first it was the 17-85 IS USM. I've read hundreds of reviews, and more than half are positive about this lens, but I guess I'm hesitiating about the negetives. Maybe I'm reading too much and should realize that this is a good lense an not to worry since I'm only shooting beginer

My other choice would be the 28-135 IS USM. Pretty much in the same boat about this one.

I plan on getting a larger lense around spring time since that is when I do alot of my outside shooting. Kids sports, equestian, nature, things like that.

Since it's nasty out now I'll start out shooting alot of indoor events, basketball, family stuff, the dog, a duck, ect...............

Any idea's as to which of the first 2 lense's will fill my needs, or possibly another type of lense. I want one with some range. I also plan on getting a nifty fifty to play with since it's cheap any get's rave reviews for the money.

Once I decide, if I can pick one up at a decent price before I get my camera, I will. I just need some help here deciding

It's really hard to give someone else advice about lenses - we usually start by talking about how wonderful our choices have been!!

I'm no exception - if you have a chance to go to a dealer that has a good stock of lenses - just for fun, put a 24 - 105 L IS on your camera. I did, and I haven't taken it off except for sensor cleaning.:D

Warning - it is not cheap, and not the fastest, but . . . .
