Will be using this for mainly motorsport

On my 30D is just set the centre piont.

The 1D has more foucus point and am just wondering what I should set it to

There seems to be many choices, all 45, 11, 9 , 7 etc

I just leave mine on 45. I still mainly use the centre point, but select an off centre point say if want to capture a bit of detail in the background. This picture was taken with my 20D but i would have used a lower focus point to capture the background

I have all 45 available to me, but only ever use one or two at any one time. I rarely use the centre focus point as it restricts available composition. I would suggest practising changing focus points on the fly to take advantage of the options your 1D mk II gives you while out shooting.

Simon.

If a mere 20D owner is allowed to post here ;)

Peter, just as an example of how to use other focus points...

That was shot using the bottom right focus point (remember it's in portrait mode though). It's much more effective to use the appropriate focus point than to try composing a shot using the centre point all the time.

Obviously the 1D will be much better off-centre than the 20/30D. I reckon i get about a 50/50 hit&miss rate when moving off-centre.

Don't forget Ken's tutorial on Focus points which is stickified at the top of the Motorsports forum. It's well worth a read or 2 :)

I usually have it set below and to the left of centre, as shown in my crappy MS paint illustration below ;)
