Jays GT4 thought it would be nice to see this innovative engine. 'Supercharger and turbo charger provide strong, linear pull (177lb ft) right up to 7000rpm'. A small 1.4 direct-injection petrol engine has been given big engine performance with small engine running costs.

I should have polished the badge but otherwise I like this shot:

away from my turbo charged jelly mould, my friend's Triumph Spitfire - bit more character but that clutch is soooo heavy:

Good shots.

big engine performance with small engine running costs.

Big is relative? Ask any female, ...or Mopar guy? :D

my friend's Triumph Spitfire - bit more character but that clutch is soooo heavy:

I raced a Spit for 10 years. He probably doesn't notice the clutch anymore. ;)

yeah well I wasnt comparing it to a Mopar Performance 5.7-litre HEMI Crate Engine but it matches the Golf 2.0 litre jobs ;)

Hey

thanks a lot for the engine shot, nice.

HKS made a twincharge kit for the 1st Gen MR2 and it made substantial power throughout the rev range (my father built one that made about 300-350RWHP) but this is the first OEM application i have seen (besides Lancia's in WRC Group B but that was in the 80's).

very nice

Wow! A W-Reg, the first time around! I had an M-Reg Volvo 440 and G-Reg BMW 535i when I was over in England. Ahh, I do miss that country a lot!

Nissan had one too in the early 80s.
It was even called the March "Superturbo" (external link)....how clever:p

not to bad, but maybe a little lower, and maybe even from the otherside. a wide aperture would throw the battery cover etc out of focus and probably be more pleasing.

I'm afraid modern engines don't do it for me aesthetically. With all the plastic covers you might as well photograph the boot/trunk full of cardboard boxes. No reflection on the quality of your photograph though.

as the Spitfire driver said when he saw it - 'now that's a sealed engine'. About the only thing you can fiddle with these days is the dipstick.

This is perhaps the other extreme ;)

And if anyone says "Yeh, but it's still a VW engine!" they know nothing.

Correct ;) . In fairness the 924S has a 944 Lux engine so they didn't all have powerplants out of a VW camper van. :D
