I like the concept of the first one, could improve the technique a little though. As for the second one, it doesn't do much for me. Maybe try making his face in color or everything in color except for the background (the child and the tree, etc.)? Also try and post the original version if you could. You did an overall good job, keep up the good work :)

Here is the original, it was pretty poor to start with.

Ah I see something now... Great concept! I do not like the selective coloring one. It is making him get "lost" in the sea of B&W and the ornaments are standing out.

I didn't like it either, some reason my wife did. I thought the tree looked cool, but he just didn't look right, color, or black and white.

If you are able to shoot the image again... Get some distance betwee the lil fellow and the tree and place it to a side (so it does not look like it is growing out of him). Bounce the flash (if possible) to get some of the ambient of the tree lights.

I love the first one, how did you get the puzzle effect?

Panos's puzzle action form action central http://www.atncentral.com/Zip_Actions/PanosPuzzle.zip (external link)

Ran it on the picture, hitting ctl-shift-z a few times after it finishes to get it back before the file is flattened, ungroup the layers, then pick a piece, do a few edit/transforms/rotates/skews then drag them where you want them.
