lets get to the point, i'm looking at purchasing either a used 1d or a used 1dmk2n. i dont have the funds to get either of them new, and im really looking for the fast shutter speed, so buyihng a new 20d for instance would not be an option. other than the megapixles, what would be the advantage of the mk2N? also, the mk2N would cost me about a grand extra so with that money i could get some glass....im stuck. anh help is appriciated. thanks.

The MarkIIN (my dream camera) is the fastest one made in terms of frames per second. It's weather sealed and has 45 autofocus points. The shutter is rated for 250K actuations, and the body is made to take a beating. If you can get one for a decent price, do it.

noise is better on the N as it is a different sensor and processors. I see N's for sale on the forums at FM for 3K =/- all day long.

The EOS-1D Mark II now has the most powerful AF system of any EOS camera released to date (2004). The EOS-1D Mark II was the first Canon camera
to feature two dedicated CPUs for AF: one for detection and calculation, and another to control lens drive. EOS-1 class cameras prior to the 1D Mark II used a single dedicated
CPU for all AF operations.

You're not looking at the 20D because of "shutter speed"? 20D's got the same 1/8000 sec. of the 1D IIN. Did you mean "frame rate"?

It may have the same "shutter speed" but shutter lag will kill you. Also the conjuntion of the 0 shutter lag and auto focus of the 1d series is blistering.

Let's hear from OP, who said "shutter speed".

if i said shutter speed, i meant fps. and remember its between a used eos1D and a used eos1DmkII, not the MKII N. im basically asking if you think its worth an extra grand for 8 mp's as apposed to 4 mp's?

its more then just a MP differance, its a faster, more accurate AF system, Better Noise Control, and Digic II. Flash Sync isnt a huge issue, as you can use HSS if you need fill flash outdoors, otherwise, there is no real need for a higher flash sync

I say go with the MkII
