I have not lost a single piece equipment in over 30 years of shooting ( I guess it is really about 36). It finally happened.

I was at a dance team competition and brought the 30D with the monopod. They had a big sign that said no professional cameras and no tripods (among other things). No problem I thought, rank amateur with a monopod, within the rules. Well they questioned the 30D as a professional camera, but tinally let me keep it. The security said that the monopod was a tripod so I could not use it. I slid it under the seat so that it was out of sight and, you guessed it, out of mind.

Well I went to get it today and guess what, it was nowhere to be found, it is still under the seat. I called the auditorium and they say noone had turned one in, so I guess it is back to the web for a new one. Well I guess that this one item (actually 2 with the ballhead) being lost is not so bad, but still. Well at least I really liked that setup so I know what to order now.

So ends the saga of a monopod and head.

No, we don;t want the best quality photos possible of our children, friends and/or colleagues. That would be in bad taste.

I renew my call for shooters to take back the gyms of the world.

That being said, like I told thelady who lost her iPod on the beach today...

TIme for upgrade! Go carbon, go pricey, then you'll NEVER forget it :P

Like you said...at least you know what to order as a replacement. In the grand scheme of things...the monopod is a whole lot easier of a loss to swallow that the camera would have been.

This is what I was going to say...at least it wasn't the 30D. Also makes me glad I have a cheapo monopod.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Type of monopod made no difference. It was a carbon fiber Feisol with a Bogen 486 RC2 head. Still managed to forget it. Yes it hurt a little, but like I said the only item in 36 years of shooting. I just hope it is not a trend.

I take my pods with me everywhere I go. I use the dickens out of both in many different circumstances.

That's really tragic. :(

If it makes you feel any better, I lost my dad's tripod in an abandoned building.

Great shades of the "Absent-Minded Professor"? Just for the hell of it...it might be worth a trip back to the venue for a quick look...it is always a possibility that the clown you talked to didn't want to get off his ass and look.

Yes, that might be worth a try, but it is a 4 hour drive just to get there. Not sure when I would have tome to drive there.

That added time element does toss a bit of a monkey wrench into the process....at the price of gas and your time...it is probably cheaper to have B&H or other suitable supplier replenish your supply.

Consider that to be a message, a blessing really... an epiphanous opportunity to finally start shooting like a grown man: no pods, no IS.

If anyone on this forum can empathize, it's me. Two tripods, one carbon fiber, the other aluminum, but with a full Wimberly head on it.

Sorry to hear it, Doc.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!
